Nothing about the “Kristen Stewart cheating on Robert Pattinson” scandal ever made sense to me. From the very beginning I suspected that the entire scandal reeked of a publicity stunt developed in a Hollywood marketing brainstorming meeting to boost the careers of everyone involved. From Kristen Stewart to Robert Pattinson to Rupert Sanders, and yes, even to Liberty Ross.

And in the weeks since the scandal ripped open the hearts of every American, we’ve seen all four of their careers receive a huge publicity bump. Not only do average people now know the names Rupert Sanders and Liberty Ross, but they’ve gotten offered scripts, jobs and everything a Hollywood family could want.

Heck, Liberty Ross walked in Fashion Week for the first time in years — and just by walking she eclipsed the names of several bigger models and landed front page headlines.

Robert Pattinson went on a whirlwind press tour for Cosmopolis in the wake of the cheating fallout and the movie saw unprecedented success despite lukewarm reviews. And Kristen Stewart? She just wrapped up the On the Road premiere at TIFF and also used her increased publicity to draw attention to her new film.

So while I feel comfortable saying that there’s defintiely more to the cheating story then we’re being told by the major tabloids and PR reps, I don’t know how I feel about this conspiracy video that’s making the rounds now. And I think anyone who’s followed my obsession with this PR stunt knows, I’m all for a good conspiracy. But something just doesn’t sit right with what it’s alleging.

According to this video, Rupert Sanders helped stage these photos with the help of an anonymous women. Clever editing shows that the  notorious photos featured in Us Weekly don’t match up to photos of the real location. There are all kinds of scale issues with Rupert Sanders and Kristen Stewart’s height —  and it’s easy to get caught up in what this video’s trying to imply.

But what doesn’t make sense to me is why would they fake the photos? That seems like an incredibly immense undertaking that would bring this conspiracy to a whole new level. Not only does it mean Rupert Sanders (and his anonymous henchmen) framed Kristen Stewart, but also that they had a reason to do so.

Not to mention that Kristen Stewart apologized for these photos within 24 hours of the news breaking – and hours before the issue of Us Weekly even hit newstands. So why would she apologize for something so devastating that she hadn’t done so quickly. Wouldn’t this be the kind of issue that would cause marketing teams to come up with an elaborate PR strategy to deflect negative attention from Kristen? A strategy that would probably take an entire day (at the very least) to create.

Commenters allude to the fact that blackmail could be involved and that could be the reason she apologized so quickly.

But what kind of blackmail would justify how this affected her reputation among fans. If she’s involved in the stunt, then tarnishing her repulation among Robsten fans makes sense. She knows the ends justify the means. The inevitable career boost she would get from “cheating” would make up for angry fans. But if we act like she got framed, then what’s her motivation for risking her entire career and her relationship with Robert Pattinson?

When coming up with a crazy conspiracy theory, we have to remember that the people involved need some kind of motivation. They need a reason to do something unethical, immoral and sometimes illegal. Is there any motivation that would explain why Rupert Sanders framed Kristen Stewart into confessing she cheated on Robert Pattinson?

I know Kristen Stewart fans want to believe that she did nothing wrong and this video definitely gives them a reason to think she’s innocent. But at the end of the day I still believe she’s a major player in this stunt. Not to say the video doesn’t make me think that something’s fishy about the photos, but not fishy enough to start believing that the unknown director Rupert Sanders blackmailed Hollywood’s highest paid actress into ruining her career.
